| Born in Petropavlovsk-on-Kamchatka in 1889. A son of a revolutionary who was relegated to the Far East. Studied in St.Petersburg at Seidenberg's (1908-09) and Tsionglinsky's (1909-10) workshops, at the CUTR (1909-11); in 1911-12, attended Deny's and Vallotone's workshops in Paris. In 1913-24, lived in Moscow and St.Petersburg. Since 1924, lived abroad, died in Paris. Member of "World of Arts" (1917(?)-22), member-founder of OST. A remarkable person of the Russian vanguard movement. Painter, graphic artist, scenographist for theater and cinema. Wrote sharply specific portraits, was an excellent drawer. He combined innovative plastics with very high professionalism. |
